Studio 4-9
I use acrylics and mixed media on canvas, paper, or panels, using layers of color and texture inspired by travels to sunlit places (Morocco, India, Istanbul, Israel, Barcelona, Venice, Sarasota, Santa Fe). Having no clear result in mind, I interact with each layer allowing “accidents” to appear by scaping through or glazing over each layer. Contrasts between surface, value, depth, shape, texture, and space create complexity. As each layer interacts with the one above, a more fully formed piece emerges with a composition that works. The act of painting itself - of applying the paint in different ways - gives me the most pleasure.
Having built a successful Executive Coaching and Presentation business, I returned to my first love of painting as a resident studio artist at the Holliston Mill. An early interest in art led to studying oil painting at the Gebhardt Studio during elementary school in Cincinnati. Later, photography and film during my four years in London (London Polytechnic), abstract acrylics (Naropa Institute, CO; Charles River Studio, Watertown), and mixed media (Decordava Museum; Rockport Art Association). After intensive workshops in Tao, NM (Barbara Zaring, Alice Frank, Ray Vinella) I sought out an individual coaching approach to develop my own style with local artists (J. Jones, Ellen Rolli, Adria Arch, Marian Dioguardi).
